Singer and composer Matt Boehler has been hailed by The New York Times as “a bass with an attitude and the goods to back it up,” and San Francisco Classical Voice for music that “harnesses considerable expressive power.”
As a singer, he has appeared with The Metropolitan Opera, La Monnaie, Canadian Opera Company, and Santa Fe Opera. A frequent contemporary music collaborator, he has premiered works by Mark Adamo, William Bolcom, John Corigliano, Michael Gordon, and Kevin Puts. As a composer, recent commissions include Fat Pig for VHO, 75 Miles for Washington National Opera, Marginalia, an evening-length song cycle for VHO in 2018, resulting in his first full-length opera commission with VHO is 2022, Fat Pig.
