2024 Season: Creative Producer, YAPs & Mall in America
Mezzo-soprano Brenda Patterson has been at the forefront of contemporary vocal music for 20 years, recognized as much for her artistic bravery as for the beauty and warmth of her voice.
A graduate of The Juilliard School and Barnard College, Brenda was a Principal Artist at the Hamburg State Opera for several years before continuing to La Scala in Milan and the Metropolitan Opera, where she was on the roster for seven seasons, and at Opera Colorado, Glimmerglass Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and Florida Grand Opera, among many others. Brenda has premiered over 30 vocal works and has been an official vocal consultant to the composers-in-residence at Opera Philadelphia. She has also taught classes at Juilliard, Mannes, UVA, and for the MET Young Artists. Brenda is a co-founder of VHO and is one of only 2 singers in America to hold the title of Director of Music of an opera company. She writes most of VHO’s chamber reductions, serves as its leading creative producer, and also spearheads VHO’s SINGTANK initiative.
